Sarah Florence Barcroft, b.March 9,1917, of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home in Chicago, Illinois on May 24, 2017. Sarah was 100 years old. She was raised with her four siblings, Caroline, Christine, Ruth, and Gilbert, by Horace Gladstone Briggs and Erma Briggs in Bucombe County, North Carolina. Sarah attended The Fruitlands Baptist Institute in Hendersonville, NC. Her passion was her family, and the patients she served at the Jobst Institute and Burn Treatment Center in Chicago. She was a talented, compassionate and loyal employee of the Jobst Institute for decades, and a caring, capable mother. She tolerated garage jazz bands in her home, and small aircraft pilot mishaps of her boys. Among other shenanigans, they all survived together with the support of her love. Sarah was blessed by a pleasant and good humored character, while also possessing a contagious and biting dry wit. Her laughter and expressions will be dearly missed.
Sarah is survived by her son Taylor Barcroft, her stepson Victor Nordgren Barcroft, her sister Christine Wood of Asheville, North Carolina, and her grandson Adam Marshall Barcroft. Also dear Cousins Troy Parham III, Lydia Irene Briggs, Diane Meier, Carolyn Lindsley and Marilyn Bentley. Among other family members Sarah was preceded in death by her sisters Caroline Jobst, Erma Ruth Briggs, her brother Gilbert Briggs, cousin Dortha Bentley, Troy Parham II, Aunt Elsie Morgan, her stepson James Barcroft, and former husband Dwight Barcroft.
The family wishes to thank those who attended to and cared for her these last years at her home: Loomi, Ophelia, Shirley, Virginia, and Jade. The family is grateful for your maintaining her health and vitality, and we are eternally grateful for the song, joy and laughter she was able to experience up until her death. Sarah surely wishes for us to celebrate her life and remember her as full of wit, whimsy and undying love and support for family. Funeral arrangements are provided for and condolences can be made with Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood, IL. There will be a graveside service at Willow Lawn Memorial Park in Vernon Hills, Illinois, on Saturday, June 3rd, at 11am.
