James Wendell Yost, 82, US Army Veteran of Grayslake, IL, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017. He was born August 4, 1935 in Chicago, IL to the union of Emery and Marion Yost of Door County, WI. James began a long career with Commonwealth Edison, beginning in 1954 and retiring as Quality Control Supervisor of the Zion Nuclear Power Plant in 1992. He served his country in the United States Army Illinois National Guard. He served his community as a Gurnee Grade School board member and Village of Gurnee trustee. Jim was awarded the Book of Golden Deeds by the Gurnee Exchange Club in 1995. He was Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 77, earning the Order of Arrow award. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and cooking, but mostly talking about and spending time with his family. James was a member of the American Legion Post 911 and St. Mary of Annunciation Catholic Church in Mundelein, IL.
James is survived by his wife of 61 years Rae Anne Yost nee; Utermark, his loving children, Cynthia (Daniel) Carlino of Oakwood Hills, IL, Victoria (Todd) Daniels of Plano, TX, Timothy (Kimberly) Yost of Bakewell, TN, Wendelyn (Daniel) Gwaltney of Lake Villa, IL, Patrick (Kathryn) Yost of Lakemoor, IL, and Michael (Laura) of Island Lake, IL, cherished grandchildren Jared Yost, Jacob (Kirby) Yost, Emily (Amber) Clark, Zackery (Melissa) Yost, Peter (Theresa) Daniels, Laura Daniels, Margaret (Justin) Granger, Nicholas (Tamara) Carlino, Anna Carlino, Bryn (Brooke) Gwaltney, Joshua Gwaltney, Ian Gwaltney, James Yost, Margaret Yost, John Yost, and Ethan Yost, He is the beloved great grandfather of Elizabeth, Finn and Penelope Daniels, Fox and Fletcher Yost, and Chance and Otto Yost, dear brother (of) Richard (Eileen) of Crystal Lake, IL, and his in laws, Jean Yost, Arlene and Ed Spriegel, and Mike Taylor and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, James was preceded in death by his parents; Emery and Marion Yost, his beloved grandson, Jonathan Carlino, his brothers; Tom and Harry Yost, and his sisters; Mariel Taylor and Patricia Spriegel.
Memorial visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Symonds Lakes Funeral Home 111 W. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030.
Visitation 9:00 AM at St. Mary of the Annunciation until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00AM Saturday, December 16, 2017, 22333 W. Erhart Rd, Mundelein, IL 60060, followed by Military Honors, interment of cremains will be held privately at Ascension Cemetery. Following in Jim’s footsteps, we ask that each of us consider performing a selfless act of kindness in his memory.
