Robert Higgins Obituary

Robert Joseph Higgins, 84, of Grayslake, IL passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 9, 2024.  He was born September 29, 1939 in Chicago, IL and the youngest of five children born from the blessed marriage of John and Charlotte Higgins.

Bob was a veteran of the United States Army Sp 4, Com Ed Crew Leader for 35 yrs, member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, volunteer for hospice, minister of care, eucharistic minister, usher and member of home school at St Gilbert Catholic Church.

Bob was a man who cared deeply for his family.  He made every vacation, holiday or just time spent sitting on the couch memorable, with his sense of humor.  No conversation was boring, as Bob was the teller of tales and earned the endearing name “Wolfy”.  Bob lived and raised his family in Grayslake, a hometown community he loved.  On any given day, you could count on finding him at the local coffee shop with friends or at the local gas station buying a lottery ticket. Bob loved to travel and had a special fondness for Hawaii. He also enjoyed tending to his greenhouse, mowing the lawn, bike riding, watching grandchildren’s sporting events and fixing things around the house.  He was an animal lover, and especially had a love for dogs.

Bob was also a man of faith.  He had a great devotion to The Blessed Mother Mary and prayed the rosary daily.  He lived out his faith by doing special little things for others, whether it was bringing flowers to someone who lost a loved one or sharing the holy eucharist with those who were homebound.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marianne Higgins (Rose), father to Robert (Kim) Higgins, Christine (Andrew) Konopacki, Marianne (Stephen) McDermott, Michael Higgins, grandfather to Zackery Higgins (Melissa Olsen), Payton Higgins, Anastasia (Sam) Gagliardi, Katya (Chandler) Vail, Alek Konopacki, Andre Konopacki, Oliver Flagg, Aidan McDermott, Kenna McDermott and Theodore McDermott.  Three great grandchildren Andrew, Lawrence and David Robert Gagliardi.  Sisters Delores Javid, and Diane (Bob) Gottlieb as well as Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his son Michael Higgins, parents John and Charlotte Higgins, brothers John and Donald Higgins, brother-in-law Dr. Hushang Javid.
