Barbara Joan Border, age 67, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020 in Mundelein, IL, after a 9-year battle with cancer. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI, and was the youngest of three children, born to the union of Sidney & Leah Durfee on February 2, 1952. She lived in several cities in Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Illinois. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from UT Austin in 1974, she obtained her teaching certificate. She worked at several companies in Texas, including the Texas Dept. of Public Safety. After moving to Illinois, she was hired by Packaging Corp. of America in Wheeling, IL, in 1986. In 1991 she graduated with a master’s degree in accounting from Roosevelt University in Chicago, and thereafter obtained her CPA. Eventually, she transitioned from accounting, to IT. She worked in several locations, and under different company names before retiring with almost 28 years of service in 2014. She enjoyed sight-seeing in Europe & the USA, boating, gardening, cooking, baking, listening to audio books, sewing, biking, walking, attending church, serving others, and doing various kinds of craft work, especially crochet and knitting. Most of her yarn products were given to charitable organizations. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her sister; Terry (the late William)Wood. Barbara is survived by her husband of 22 years Jim Border of Mundelein, IL, her sister Deborah (Samuel) Dunkin of McDade, TX, six nieces & nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
