“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
Deborah Ann Bobbitt, age 68, of Decatur, IL at peace in Christ Sunday, February 5, 2017 surrounded by her family. Born August 2, 1948 in Clinton, IL to the union of the late Robert Lee and Patricia Johanna (Long) Willmore. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Springfield, IL, class of 1966. She spent the majority of her career working for the Decatur Housing Authority in a variety of roles. She most enjoyed her position as a Resident Service Coordinator, advocating for disadvantaged women. Debbie was committed to her community, serving on the board of Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Macon County and campaigning for local political candidates. Anyone who knew Debbie understood she was a passionate and outspoken liberal, who nonetheless unconditionally loved and accepted those with differing views, especially those within her immediate family. Debbie was very socially minded and had a big heart for ALL people.
She enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. The front door to her home was always open to everyone. Many of her children’s friends considered her a second mom, and she relished in her children’s and friends accomplishments. A strong woman who taught everyone around her what it meant to be convicted in your beliefs and to lead with a confident voice. Debbie was known to like a little cake with her icing, a little lobster with her butter, and a little beer with her salt.
On October 3, 1987 she married Terry Lynn Bobbitt, the happy couple successfully joining two large families whom lovingly survive her.
Beloved wife of Terry, loving mother of Melissa (Travis) Aldridge of Decatur, William “Chip” (Tracy) Martin of Forsyth, Bryan (Kristin) Martin of Newport Beach, CA, Meredith (Rick) Finch of Decatur, Lori (Bobby) Carlson of Bethany, Greg (Cara) Bobbitt of Seneca, SC, Tracey Bobbitt-Ramsey of Johnson City, TN, and Debra (Chris) Harrison of Decatur. Fond grandmother of 24, great grandmother of 3. Dear sister of Mary Anne Willmore of Maeystown, Lawrence (Vanessa) Willmore of Springfield, Julie (Sherman) Alexander of Dupo and Robert Willmore of Overland Park, KS. Cherished aunt of 14 and devoted friend of the late Cindy Whalen Krows.
