John H. Edwards Jr. affectionately know as “Heavy” age 75 and a lifetime resident of Waukegan, IL., was called home on September 3rd, 2019 at Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan. John H. Edwards Jr. was born August 26, 1944 to John Henry Edwards and Lillie Cora Barkley in Waukegan, IL.
John was a longtime Waukegan resident who was well known and loved by those who knew him. John was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served his country from September 1965 until March 1968 when he was honorably discharged. John was a simple man with a simple taste that could talk about anything with anyone… especially sports.
John leaves to cherish his memories: five sisters: Willie Ann of (Zion, IL), Bernice, Velma, Cheryl and Marsha Holden of (Waukegan, IL), Linda Lear (Brown) of (Zion, IL). Three brothers: Larry and Vincent Edwards of (Zion, IL), Rickey Edwards of (Waukegan, IL). A “special cousin” Shirly Jones (Tee Jones) of (Wisconsin). A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. John had six very dear close friends that will forever cherish his memories which are: Johnny, Forest, Jake, Ralph, Wimp McClain (deceased) and Bradshaw of Waukegan, IL.
John was preceded in death by his parents John Henry Sr. and Lillie Cora Edwards; two uncles: Uncle James of Chicago, IL; seven aunts: and Walter G. Edwards of Waukegan, IL; seven aunts: Roberta of Mississippi, Alberta of Chicago, IL, Willie Ann, Georgia Mae, Jessie and Roberta of Mississippi, Rosemary Hany of Waukegan, IL and Ellora (Williams) Pitts of Montgomery AL; five sisters: Diane (Zion, IL), Thelma, Valerie and Patricia of (Waukegan, IL), Cleo Dykes of (South Bend, IN); Several nephews: Tommie Lee, Shawn, ED Holden, Jermal A Johnson Jr. (Munchkin), Tommie Le Edwards III, all of Waukegan, IL; Gary Beckwith Jr. of (North Chicago, IL), Kenny and Donnie Dikes of (South Bend, IN). John was also preceded in death by a special friend Wimp (Andera) McClain. One niece: Valette (Edwards) Harris of (Madison, WI).
Visitation Friday, September 13, 2019 10:00 A.M. until funeral service 11:00 A.M. at Jesus Name Apostolic Church, 150 S. Genesee Street, Waukegan, IL. Interment and military honors following at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL
