John “Jack” E. Bonke of Wadsworth, IL passed away peacefully in the presence of his loved ones on May 7, 2016. Jack was born January 17, 1944 in Evergreen Park, Illinois, then lived in Chicago, Evanston and Wadsworth. Jack was the son of John and Doris Bonke, husband of Marianne, father of John and Scott, grandfather of Jazmin and Chloe, brother of Carol and Linda and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Jack was a happy-go-lucky and cheerful guy, (almost) always ready with a smile and a Swen & Ole joke. Jack loved being with family and friends, he enjoyed cooking massive amounts of food for them. He was a master at making custom designs including a backyard shed, a giant ironing table, and a $500 knife sharpener. Some of Jack’s happiest times were cheering for Jazmin, Chloe and their teammates at softball games. All the girls on the teams called him Papa. He loved fishing in Lake George, MN, especially with John and Scott. If he wasn’t fishing, he was buying lines & lures and pricing more fishing reels and rods.
Jack was a fighter. When cancer attacked him, his plan was “fight this” with “PMA” (positive mental attitude). And he carried on with the stuff of his life: projects, trips to Lake George and most importantly time with his family and friends.
