Maria Giunta, age 94 of Highland Park passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at her home. She was born October 1, 1925 in Rosalí Reggio, Calabria, Italy to the union of Gaetano Calabrese and Francesca Sgro. On July 8, 1951 at the Church of Santa Maria D’Itria in Rosalí Reggio, Calabria, Italy she married Domenico Giunta and the family immigrated to Highwood, Illinois in 1971. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Highland Park.
Beloved wife of the late Domenico on November 19, 2009. Loving mother of the late Caterina Giunta on January 4, 2001, Aurora (Antonino) DeMarco of Highland Park and Pietro Giunta of Highland Park. Fond nonna of Sabrina (Steven) Markoutsas of Gurnee and Antonio DeMarco of Highland Park. Bis nonna of Niko Patterson, Costa and Spiro Markoutsas, James Carroll and Jonathan DeMarco. Dear sister of the late Antonia (late Domenico) Carlo, late Rocco Calabrese, Giovanna (late Rocco) Scopelitti of Highwood, and the late Carmela (late Francesco) Crea. Precious Zia to many.
Visitation Friday, June 26, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood. Friends may gather starting at 9:45 A.M.to check in until time of funeral mass 10:00 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church, 770 Green Bay Road, Highland Park. Rev. Michael McMahon, celebrant. Entombment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
