Sally Joy Horschler Smith, at her home in the early morning on Saturday, October 28, 2017 she was lead by the hand of the Lord home to Heaven. With her family holding and loving her as she passed into glory. Sally was born on August 5, 1946 in Joliet, Illinois to the union of Donald E. and Lorraine (Johnson) Horschler. She graduated from Lockport High School, class of 1964, attended Kings College in New York, New York and received a bachelors degree in Physical Education from Illinois State University. On June 19, 1971 she married Henry B. Smith III at Faith Bible Church, Joliet. Sally led a full life. She was an avid athlete in gymnastics, tennis, downhill skiing and recently horseback riding. She loved to entertain and was the consummate hostess. She had a knack for making and keeping lifelong friends. She loved all music, played the piano and sang in choirs all her life. She loved the ballet and all forms of dance. She had a unique ministry to women as a speaker and mentor. Sally was always a joy to be with, adventurous and fun loving with an infectious smile.
Sally loved reading the Bible, the Word of God. It was her constant companion. Virtually every page has underlines, dates comments and in many cases peoples names for whom she was praying. Sally was also a gifted artist, she would create by hand, water color cards and bookmarks with verses that were meaningful to her and to those who received one.
Beloved wife of Henry B. Smith III, Loving mother of Erika (Edward J.) Deegan and August Tucker Smith (Jose Rodriguez Nunez). Devoted grandmother of Clare Collins Deegan, Hadleigh Elizabeth Deegan and Brynleigh Joy Deegan. Cherished daughter of Donald E. and the late Lorraine Horschler. Dear sister of Philip (Marisol) Horschler, Donna (David) Beguin and Diane Horschler. Dear aunt of Allison Horschler, Ryan, Sean and Brittany Beguin. Dear daughter in law of the late Henry B. Jr. and Virginia Teske Smith and sister in law of Betty Smith Krikorian, Alexandra Smith Klingelhofer, Virginia Susan Smith and Frederick Wright Smith.
Friends may call on Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral Service on Friday, November 3, 2017 11:00 A.M. at Christ Church Lake Forest, 100 North Waukegan Road, (corner of Rt. 43 & Rt. 60) Lake Forest, Illinois.
